Port of Shanghai takes actions to avoid interruptions due to Covid
Shanghai, the world’s largest container port, is isolating the shipment of international goods to prevent export disruptions as a wave of Covid sweeps through China, Bloomberg reported.
The increase in cases has started to affect supply chains that depend on China, and this may worsen in the run-up to Chinese New Year next month, according to Dimerco Express.
For now, ports are not suffering as much as they were at the start of the year, when lockdowns to contain the virus wreaked havoc on already stressed supply chains. One big difference is that ports now operate in a radically changed economic environment, as global demand has weakened considerably, helping to ease trade congestion. At the same time, China’s move away from the Covid Zero Policy comes as shippers enter a seasonal slowdown period ahead of the holidays.
